About Ardmore

The distillery on the outskirts of Kennethmont was founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher. It was expanded from two to four stills in 1955 and from four to eight in 1974. In 1976, Allied Breweries took over the company William Teacher & Sons and with it the distillery and closed the malt house. Allied Breweries became Allied Distillers in 1987 after the takeover of Hiram Walker and Allied Domecq in 1993 after the takeover of Pedro Domecq. On July 5, 2005, the spirits group Pernod Ricard took over Allied Domecq and with it the distillery. However, in order to meet the requirements of the antitrust authorities, they had to divest themselves of Ardmore, so that Beam Global Spirits & Wine, a subsidiary of Fortune Brands, is now the new owner of the distillery and the cooperage belonging to it. The takeover of Beam Global by the Japanese drinks group Suntory was announced in January 2014. This means that Ardmore will also become the property of the Japanese group. Until around the year 2000, the stills were still fired directly with coal.
